If the graphics were added to the Word document using Insert>Picture,
you're out of luck, I'm afraid. This is basically the same as inserting a
graphic by copying in FrameMaker. No linkage of any kind is maintained
between the document and the source file for the graphic.

For updating to work, the graphics would have to have been added using
Insert>Object>Create From File with the Link to File option selected.
This is very much like inserting a graphic by reference in FrameMaker,
and requires the source files for the graphics to remain in the same
location and retain the same filename or else you'll have a bad link and
will get some sort of placeholder box in your document.
