double byte character set, single byte character set, Latin alphabet

I've got a problem to bring to the group.
We are allowing software users to specify a URL which is turned into a
hyperlink on a compiled public-facing website. The field in which they
specify the URL does NOT allow Chinese, Korean, Japanese characters -
i.e. DBCS. If they enter DBCS, upon validation an error message is
returned. What should this error message say?
I thought..."blah blah blah field only accepts Latin alphabet".
The original spec said ...."blah blah blah field must be entered using
ASCII characters".
The audience is lawyers, paralegals, professionals in the legal
industry.
