TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Multiple Undo is a good thing. Not everyone has a neatly streamlined working
process like Sean ;-) (and I can quite happily follow my undos (undoeses?)
through 6 or 7 iterations, sometimes more).
The 3d stuff may be "cool" (the demo I saw was) but not something I'll use,
probably more applicable for those documenting hardware?
Text edit tracking is good, but change bars have been there for several
versions (will need to check what the difference is).
The big BIG thing for me is the improved DITA support, but that'll probably
only excite a small subset of FrameMaker users.
As for FrameMaker's Word import being better than Microsoft's FrameMaker
import, well of course it is. Microsoft doesn't NEED to pander to the few of
us who use FrameMaker. Adobe DO. Haven't we all figured this out yet?
I'll hang off on any more comments but I'm surprised that Adobe didn't try
and make FrameMaker feel a little more like "one of the family". It's still
very much the ugly cousin in the corner. Yes yes I know, functionality is
what counts but surely productivity would be gained if they did some
tweaking/redesigning of the UI. Ohh I hear the phrase "not cost effective"
echoing through the mailing list... ;-)
