You're going to lose this battle. Technology journalists have been
called "tech writers" in the magazine/book world as long as people have
been writing about technology. The title is well established there.
Its just similar jargon from different spheres.

If it's any consolation they get really confused about us, too. The
notion of working for one company on one thing, for *years* even,
without bylines, without a point of view -- its really foreign to them,
and they find it kind of icky.

Then you tell them how much you get paid and they go all green and ask
you where they can find some work like that. :)
