>What about cross-pollination of graphics and text within a company? If I
find a graphic or some text used in one AT&T document, can I use it in
another AT&T document without permission?<
Hi John,
It depends on your company's policy. Some companies have many divisions that
operate independently. Some have many divisions that operate under one
umbrella. In either case, they may not allow use of graphics across
divisions without approval. This is to keep control and ensure accuracy.
(The approval in these cases is more for tracking who is using what revision
of a drawing, so they can be contacted when the drawing is revised or
corrected.)
Most of the smaller businesses (or at least those that intend to stick
around for a while) try to keep some form of control over graphics and
printed material. If you don't, then you end up with a documentation
nightmare and a bloated customer service department.
