So you think if the doggie-loving manager asked if there
was someone in the group who'd be willing to stay later
in the work day and have a correspondingly later start
time on a regular basis there's no possibility that someone
might think that sounded good?
I too was a benign dictator both as a manager and as a college-level
instructor. Definitely not a democracy. I did expect my staff to pick up
responsibilities I was too busy to do (attending endless meetings that
my staff did not want to attend) but I can't imagine asking them to stay
later than me unless I had an emergency. BUT, as I said before, I am
happily single and childfree although I do have to pick up my dog
occasionally from doggie-day care.
Can you imagine this: a manager asking a staff member to stay late
regularly so the manager could pick up the dog at doggie day care? No.
Wouldn't fly.
