In the modern working world, a "well-managed" company
recognizes that the workplace has become for most people
a major social location, hence the emphasis on objectives
and accomplishments rather than merely on hours. A
company that "only" expects its employees to put in 40 hours
a week is probably better than one that requires more, but
still doesn't come anywhere close to one that just hands
out card keys with 24 hour access to the building, establishes
mutually agreed upon objectives for employees and then lets
them decide for themselves how many hours they need to
get their work done and when they've put in so many that
they're not doing that work well anymore.
