hi there,
I started a similar system here recently, mostly to help with my own sanity.
We had multiple versions of all documents floating around, and it was
getting ugly.
Here's an example:
E1001-4.1-2007-05-25
That's it. I gave each guide its own code (E1001, for example), and appended
the software version (4.1) and then the date.
For Release Notes, we add a build number in there too.
