We don't have any trouble copying text (or illustrations) from our PDF files. We create them from our Word source documents without any special locks or protections. Anybody can copy or print from the shared folder containing the PDFs.
Unless negotiated and specified in a contract, we would not make Word documents available to customers. Only the Goddess of the Documents is allowed into the folder containing the DOC files -- access to those source files is not even offered to our own people.
