This is merely Microsoft trying to prevent you from realizing that
their software contains an evil sentience that has taken control of
your life. You really haven't noticed how it is capable of changing
its mind and deciding to allow you to succesfully do something in
some sessions but not others?

You bring up a very good point on usage. For some verbs,
a human subject is a necesssity. :-) A user can allow software
to be installed on a PC, but SW can't allow anything.
And _The Microsoft Manual of Style_ [1st ed., 'allow'] agrees with you.
