TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Along the same lines, the more we keep talking about all
the parts of a technical writer's job that are not merely
sitting at a keyboard and entering words as if they are'
somehow part of some different job, the less valuable
"technical writer" is as a professional job description.
In several past companies I've found myself being asked
by my writers if they shouldn't have different titles
because their jobs include more functions than "just
writing," such as product research and testing, information
organization, design ("architecture"), presentations, etc.
My response has always been, "and which of these do you
think are not part of a technical writer's job...?"
>I don't know if the field is growing, but the list of Big,
> Important-Sounding Names for "technical writer" is growing like kudzu.
> For Pete's sake, guys, I wasn't even finished making fun of "technical
> communicator."

> non-writers are gonna sneak in.
