I was in a very similar situation at my last job. After suggesting so many 
changes to the GUIs, they finally gave me Delphi and let me have at the 
Source Safe. I had final say about ALL the GUIs in a 17 module suite. I 
only clashed with two of the more geeky developers. My boss and the code 
guru were both supporters of my suggestions, so backed me 100%.

That was then, this is now. The geeks at my new job make the other geeks 
look like prom kings. I have been asked to suggest changes, which I have, 
and exactly 0 have been implimented. Top of the list is the "Submit Query" 
button, which they won't change to Go, Search, or even Execute, because 
"that's what it's actually doing". Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
