Agree entirely. I'm not offended by either of the phrases mentioned,
though can't seen any use for them in a technical document. But I'm
judging that from by mindset, my frame of reference. One thing I can't
control is the mindset/frame of reference of the person reading 'what I
wrote'.

I would like to add to what Chris Borokowski wrote. Instead of using few
colloquialisms, don't use them at all in your technical writing. Don't
use
jargon or slang. None of them have any use in technical writing,
especially
if your writing is to be read by customers in different regions of the
country, or different countries in the world.

How you talk (or write) outside of technical writing is up to you.
Realize
that for every seemingly innocent colloquialism, someone will be
offended.
In most cases, their offense is rooted in the region they grew up, or
their
family heritage. Accept it and go on with life.
