My first computer was Leading Edge, and their WP wasn't shabby.
My first computer was also a Leading Edge, complete with a 5M HD, 640 K of
RAM and a screaming 4.77M 8088. Leading Edge's word process was based on
Wang's word processor (made sense since a lot of the people at Leading Edge
were from Wang). I also had a Brother Daisy-wheel printer 'cause editors
didn't like reading dot matrix text. The system also came with a flat-file
data base and a Lotus 123 clone (can't remember it's name...hey, that was in
1984). Prior to my first "personal computer," I enjoyed many a day writing
text using "VI" on a DEC-PDP1170/VAX750 based system, and on a beta Fortune
32:16 Xenix-based system that used Wang emulation. The only problem with the
Fortune was if you used the "Delete" command in the Glossaries (macros) the
system would slowly eat away your document one word at a time. The only way
to stop the munching was to kill the machine.
Slow, noisy, cumbersome...those were the days.
