Agreed on all counts, and an important topic for many
reasons. I'd add:

1. The browser is no longer exclusively a desktop
application, and that's going to change even more in
coming years. Micro-laptops like the OLPC, PDAs,
phones and possibly even weirder stuff will be
accessing the net.

2. Web development with HTML/XHTML and CSS can be
logically structured so that styles match function
match description, and this usually leads to avoiding
the many pitfalls of inaccessible design.

3. Few (sane) web pages these days are hand-coded.
Almost all are script or interpreted HTML (PHP)
produced. Once again, good design science rewards the
same things quality accessibility testing does.

4. Future pages will be more frequently machine-read,
including search engines, and as even today's SEO
shows, the same constraints and rewards apply.

Our online help systems work in Netscape, Opera,
Konqueror and Lynx.
