Nancy:

I don't know of any solution to your problem.

If the figures were linked to the graphics, the path of each graphic would be available via the Edit > Links dialog box, or in the code view of the fields.

If the figures were embedded as drawing program objects, you'll at least be able to see (in the field code) which program created them. Your best hope here would be to copy each figure back into the originating graphics program and save them with a new naming scheme that suits your purposes.

If the figures were pasted or inserted or unlinked so as to transform their original format, then there's little you can do.

I hope someone can give you a more helpful answer. Though sometimes knowing for sure that what you want is impossible is "helpful" too.
