In light of an exceptional tax refund, I just spec'd one out... it's horribly expensive and I haven't decided to pull the trigger just yet but it's definitely a dream machine for me:

Dell Latitude D820
Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 (2.33GHz)
Windows XP Professional
15.4" screen
4GB RAM
160GB hard disk
DVD RW
512MB Nvidia graphics card
D/Port Advanced Port Replicator
Extra A/C adapter
3-year on-site service plan
3-year Gold technical support

and of course... Resource CD and REFERENCE GUIDE

It's definitely Vista-ready but I decided I'd rather stick with Windows XP for the time being.

Hi techwhirlers,

I'm about to buy some new laptop computers for my technical writing
activities. So I'll be using the typical tech writer's toolset: Adobe
Creative Suite + Adobe FrameMaker, WebWorks Publisher 9.x, XMetal, Madcap
Flare, AuthorIT etc.

What do you think I will need in terms of hardware (processor, RAM, ...)? Of
course, I'd like the laptops to be "Vista-ready".

Best regards

Yves
