I've been hired into one or two companies with "info dev"
departments staffed with "information developers." One of the first things I try to do is change the names back to
"technical publications" and "technical writer." If you're
embarressed to have a dept name and a job title that
doesn't clearly reflect your work, why pick a profession
in the first place?

Once upon a time, someone thought "technical writer" wasn't a
highfalutin enough title, so they came up with "technical communicator."
Now, they've decided that "design communicator" sounds even niftier.

I think we should have a contest to predict the next fake name for
"technical writer," before any company actually advertises for that
position. Whoever guesses right, wins!
