RE: Current trends in Authoring Tools?

Ditching RoboHelp, etc?  Are they mad?  I use Word as my source editor
for Doc-to-Help, but I would never rely on Word as my sole tool for
maintaining documentation.  

And other products have had future development paths, but that doesn't
translate into quality.  I'm sure the last model of the Ford Pinto was a
vast improvement over the first.

And when in Rome, you might want to look over the walls and see the
barbarians gathering in the distance.
