Subject:"y" of "Page x of y" is incorrect From:Nancy Allison <maker -at- verizon -dot- net> To:techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com Date:Fri, 02 Feb 2007 09:08:22 -0600 (CST)
Hi. I've found some technical fixes on a terrific Word site (http://addbalance.com/usersguide/sections.htm). But, they involve going into the field level, and I'm hoping that there is a fix that can be performed from the regular Footer numbering options on the Header/Footer toolbar.
Why? Because I will be one in a long line of technical writers working on this doc (this is a startup that hires tech writers occasionally). I want to use the Word interface as simply as possible, so that other people can figure out what I've done.
The exact problem is that the "y" value is displaying the number of pages in each section, rather than the complete document. All the footers are connected by the "Same as Previous" option, too. Instead of having "Page 3 of 24" and "Page 17 of 24," I'm getting "Page 3 of 7" in the first, seven-page section, and "Page 17 of 3" for a 3-page section.
I'll fool with the fields manually if I need to, but does anyone know how to solve this problem through the menu options?
