than a barely-defined and totally-uncertified technical writer?

It's all about standards.

I'm a reasonably skilled tech writer with a background in the hard sciences,
a Bachelor's Degree in English with a minor in Investigative Journalism and
another in Comp Sci.  I make computers jump through hoops and I keyboard at
a clocked 118 words per minute.

I did not get into seriously making a living as a technical writer until I
received that laminated "Certified ISO 9000 Internal Auditor" paper.

Hiring managers love certifications.  They don't care what it's in -- I
probably could have presented my "2nd Level Reiki Practitioner" paperwork.
But they love certifications, and I think I'm going to look into what it
takes to get the BA professional certificate.

Just for the collection since I'm planning to stay in this job until I
retire.
