As others have already said (and is often the case in TWing!) it
depends. Each application is different and your CV/Resume should be
tailored appropriately.
My own approach is:
1 Covering letter: (hopefully!) gives some indication of
personality etc and, more importantly, shows that I tick all the boxes
listed in their job spec. A good letter gets your CV/resume read and
leads to the interview. A 'poor' letter may lead to immediate rejection.
2 Short CV/Resume (2 pages) geared specifically to the
application.
3 Table/bulleted list detailing specific experiences -
tools/training/etc
4 More detailed CV/Resume. If I include (2) then I indicate that
in the covering letter that there is an 'abbreviated' CV/Resume for ease
of reading plus a 'full' version with additional details.
Any application is a combination of these generally including (1), (3)
and (2)/(4)/Both depending on the specific situation.
