We are trying to get our remote video surveillance product to
comply with UL standards. The electrical engineer thinks we need
some kind of warning symbol in the installation guide telling the
installer to find and use studs when mounting the unit on a wall,
for safety reasons. He mentioned some sort of caution or warning
showing a symbol for tension but can't tell me more than that.
Have you seen or heard of anything that would be useful for this
purpose?

You need to go to the Underwriters Laboratories website to find out exactly what they require, as you cannot use their logo or say your product complies with their standards if you don't know their standards. Go to http://www.ul.com and click their "standards" link. You can also find out what type of symbol is required, if any.
