This isn't strictly an oxymoron, but the other day, I thought of a book
a la "For Dummies" titled "VB Scripting for Luddites."
And then I thought of creating a website for Luddites just to see how
many hits it would get. I might just do that. . . Hold on a sec. . .
luddites.com takes you to one of those "related searches" sites,
luddite.com takes you to a World of Warcraft site, and nedludd.com gives
you an error message.

And just to take it to a ridiculous extreme, I have heard rumors that
there are virtual Luddites in Second Life.

For reference, in case someone isn't familiar with luddism, it takes its
name after Ned Ludd, who led a worker's revolt that resulted in the
destruction of textile machines in England circa 1812. A Luddite is
someone who is extremely-no, fanatically distrustful of technology.
There are a few neo-Luddites still around-but how do they get hold of
one another? Homing pigeon? Smoke signals? Semaphore? Aldiss Lamp?
(If anyone gets the reference from the last three items, you are indeed
a master or mistress of obscure allusions. Email me off-list.)

Well, I'm off to NE Louisiana for Christmas.

See y'all next week.
