I don't highlight any text to insert my cross reference. Basically, what
I do is place my cursor where I would like the cross reference, go to
"Insert", choose the "cross reference" option. This brings up another
menu in a separate window. When I am referencing an entire section the
reference type is "Numbered Item" and the best option we've found for
"Insert reference to" is to use "Paragraph number". This inserts the
Section number with a colon following it. I delete the colon, save, and
go to print. However, when I print, the hyperlink reverts back to its
original state and prints the colon as well. The strangest part is that
this problem seems to be document dependent. It doesn't happen in every
document. But when it does happen in a document, it happens in all
references to a whole section. We have our "Heading 1" style set up to
read "Section 1: Whatever the title of the section is". We have tried
removing the colon from the style. This does not work. I'll happily send
a sample of our problem to anyone off list.

Thanks,

Shannon

Shannon,
Could you please post:
a) A snippet of the target area (preferably, the text which you
highlighted before inserting the bookmark), for a single
cross-reference which is giving you the problem you describe above.
b) A brief procedure - the steps you follow to create your
cross-reference/hyperlink. More detail is better - tell us the menu
options you use, what dialog you see and what options you choose on
that dialog.

If we can reproduce your problem, we are that much closer to trying to
solve it :-)

Cheers,
Ed.
