Indeed I do believe that the World Wide Web is a
member of a class (webs) containing other members.
If they had called it the World Wide Jacaranda,
I'd have trouble lowercasing the shortened form
because it isn't a jacaranda in any normal sense.
But it's a web in that it's a complex of many
interconnections just as spider webs, fabric
webs, and social webs are. I follow your logic
but I guess I disagree with your premise.
