When it comes to email lists, I'd say the answer to that question
is no. The general rule for listservers is that server owner makes
the rules and users can either like it or leave, and AFAIK the owners
of these particular lists have not declared them to be democracies.
So what I am doing is watching how the owners of both manage their
respective lists and deciding to subscribe to one, the other, both or
neither, and I suspect that neither list will be swallowed up by a sudden crack in the Earth's crust based on what I end up doing.

As professionals, or at least as a group which often laments our professional status, shouldn't we be more concerned about the inner/behind-the-scenes workings of what is a major resource to us and stands in for a sort of professional organisation?
