I'm a Help and Manual user. I highly recommend it - especially for
"novice" users. H&M allows me to avoid having to use Word (which is a
plus in my books). It does, however, give you the option to output in
Word, but I prefer to output in PDF. Plus you can use the same
information and output in HTML Help, Browser-based Help, etc. You
should try a trial version - I think you'll be impressed.

I purposely avoided any HAT that used Word as the basis, as I feel
that is problematic, but that's just my opinion.

Hope this helps,

Hi all,

I'm supposed to recommend a help authoring tool. I've checked the list
archives and various websites, but having never used one before, am
not sure what to look for. We'll be writing help for at least two
systems: one for the menu in a piece of software and one for a
website. We'll be writing manuals (probably in Word and converting to
PDF) as well.

Doc-to-Help looks good but is probably out of our price range. Has
anyone used WinCHM from Softany or Help & Manual? What about free
tools, like Microsoft's HTML Help?

Thanks for any advice.

Elizabeth
