"Freelance" is an old reporting term meaning you're a reporter who
sells stories to the paper who bids highest (or bids at all). You're
not an employee of the paper. It really makes no sense in tech
writing. I find it hard to imagine there are rogue tech writers out
there documenting software and selling it to the highest bidder. ;-)

But temping is also different, as it implies a short stint to fill a
gap or need short-term. Generally temps are "pimped" out by agencies.

Usually W2 (rare) or 1099 (more common) tech writers are considered
contractors, as they are hired to share their expertise in solving a
business problem (usually in assisting with getting a product out the
door or instructing people on how to use something internally).

Or, you can LO at Fred Ridder. I know I did! Thanks Fred! :-)

Hi:

I often hear the term "freelancing" used in ref to TWing. What is the difference between temping (W2 or 1099) and freelancing?

Thanks,

Richard Lewis
