To learn as much as possible, I recently read an article alluding to some of the problems managers are finding with new technical communicators who have recently graduated and are just beginning careers. In your experience, what are some of the major problems with new technical communicators? How can I try to avoid those same issues when I enter the field?

The biggest "problem" with new tech communicators is that managers
don't spend the time and energy up-front to properly train them. They
are coming from academia, which more than not teaches in a "the sky's
the limit" manner where time and resources are unlimited and the
emphasis is on "proper" work. Without guidance, new techcommers will
hold to these ideals and be unproductive and will question or
circumvent the existing manual of style. They are green, and need
constant care and supervision to properly grow their roots in your
organization.
