Karen,
Each of your comcast email addresses has a webspace. So you could
start there, and try it out. If you decide to stay with it, then go
ahead and get a domain name/hosting space (for about $50-60 or less
per year.)

Great idea Ed. I had completely forgotten about the person web space
offered by Comcast and the like. In fact, that is where I created my
first website and I know a number of individuals who still have their
personal websites hosted in this manner. It's where they put the
pictures of summer vacation, etc. I would, however, keep your
personal website separate from your professional website. If I'm
looking for examples of your work, the last thing I want to wade
through is pictures of Foo Foo's latest litter, or the kitty playing
with the Ostrich feather.
Ed also brings up a good question on what software will Karen use to
create this website. Although I am a Dreamweaver advocate, a lot of
beginners use FrontPage because it comes with Microsoft Office (at
least it used to). It can get you started, then when your tired of
all the MS garbage clogging your site, you can move on to more
flexible and powerful web development programs. Or, you can write the
code yourself using Notepad, not a fun way to go, but the cheapest.
