TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I guess it's time to stick *my* head in the oven...
I obtained a certificate in Technical Writing. I leave it as an exercise
for the reader to figure out if that's formal training or not. I
certainly learned something, and wished I had learned *more*. I learned
a great deal at Oracle Corp., but wish I had learned more *there* as
well.
Nothing in the world forces you to ask questions better than being a
lone writer at a startup.

Subject: Re: Senior technical writer?
I know very few Senior Technical Writers who have had formal training in
Technical Writing. In fact, I know very few technical writers who have
degrees or other types of formal training in Technical Writing.
