>> The economy is humming along with unemployment under 5% and wages

professions.
>>Good point. At least in the US, we're in a job-seeker's market once again.
'Splain to me, then, why I've been looking for 3 months and have only had
one real interview - and that was for an instructional design job.
<<R. Schwartz said: I also
interviewed a fully qualified technical writer who once worked for IBM
but is totally unqualified for work in Information Technology (now
that's a paradox) because he wrote chiefly reference documentation that
I have not seen for 25 years. The man is only in his mid thirties and is
totally out of date!>>>
Unfortunately, I suspect this is why I'm not getting calls (although I'm not
looking for work in software or IT). I'm a damn good tech writer, but I
worked for 6 years at a firm focused on mechanical engineering and they're
not interested in paying for fancy-schmancy document technology. Just Word,
please, and as simple as possible. Yup, I'm behind, but that doesn't mean I
can't do the job!
Sigh.
