From 1st October 2006 it will be illegal in the UK to discriminate against employees on grounds of age. It is already illegal to discriminate on grounds of race or sex.

According to BBC News, ageism is rife in the UK, but many workers (and employers) are unaware of the new law that comes into force next week (see: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/5371218.stm)
