How many of you have found age to be a factor in getting work?

While age discrimination is illegal, I have been to a number of
interviews over the last couple of years where I knew I wouldn't get
the job because nobody interviewing me was over 30. I'm not sure if
it was age discrimination as much as fitting into the company's
culture. Maybe if I pierced my tongue and eyebrows and got some
tattoos......
Ironically, in two of those cases, the company's were bought by older,
more established firms who subsequently used my services on a
contractual basis at a higher rate than the original company could
offer...so, age does have it's benefits and at least I have most of my
teeth.
