>>I'm creating pop-ups from images in my FrameMaker documentation. >>I'm doing this by inserting ImageAreaAltText Markers in text >>frames defined in the graphics.
>>After regenerating my project the pop-ups appear in my .chm file >>like they're supposed to when I pass my cursor over them. >>Unfortunately, these pop-ups remain visible for ~5 seconds. With >>some pop-ups containing 255 characters, five seconds is not >>enough time to read all of the AltText.
>>How do I modify the time that the pop-ups remain visible?
>>I've looked in the Scripts folder > PopUps, but I can't find the >>variable that controls this.
>I'm confused. I thought Alt-text markers were used to indicate >what's in a graphic frame >for accessibility (or if someone is >using a text-only browser). It sounds like you're putting entire >captions in the alt-text. Wouldn't those be better as visible all >the time?
It?s like this: A lot of the information that I used for my documentation came from the business use cases. My manager later decided that the developer?s notes, test cases, and QA notes should also be included in the documentation. But since these notes are relative to specific screens, he wanted that information as close to the screens as possible.
The screens: The screens that I?m including in my documentation are very busy and crowded (loads of buttons and fields). Originally, the developers were supposed to implement rollover text in the application (pass the cursor over a field, up pops a pop-up). My manager decided that the developers didn?t have enough time to do this, so he gave me that task. But (and this is the biggie), he wanted that info presented as pop-ups.
After a little experimentation, I was able to get this effect, although the users are going to have to guess that there?s pop-up messages in the graphics.
So, the problem now is trying to get the pop-ups to remain visible longer than five seconds.
