This is a lesson to everyone to read contracts before signing them. If you
don't understand something or think it's confusing, ask your attorney.

My thought is that if a client wants two weeks' notice from me then I
require the same from them and adjust the contract to include that. If they
choose to ask me to leave without the two weeks' notice they are still on
the hook for paying for my services for those two weeks.

I believe you set the tone of a relationship with a contract and that it's
important to set it as professionally--and equitably--as possible. Any
company that's not willing to be equitable and professional when you're
negotiating a contract is probably a company you don't want as a client.
