Actually, we were thinking of getting a barcode reader set to catalog the umteen zillion books my family has. Any suggestions on where to get them at a reasonable price?

why not use a barcode reader (or wand) to enter into a spreadsheet all the CDs you own now, then use the spreadsheet to do the alphabetical order thing.
