I think it'd be very interesting to see what happens when they
advertise for a receptionist and a male applies for the job.

Well, as long as you're going there, how 'bout this attitude? We have
one male in our clerical dept, and they usually don't let him answer the
phones unless it's unavoidable. The reason being - and I heard it in
these very words - is that it sounds like one of the regular employees
is answering the phone, and the company can't afford a receptionist.
They WANT a female voice answering the phones so the customer's
impression is not that of too small a company.
