Well, its not all that different from any other kind of software testing.

You simply ask what is the template intended to do? Does it do it?

Subdividing this by subject, you might get questions such as this.

- Are all the styles as intended?

- Is all placeholder text in the right place?

- Are headers & footers right - both for cover page and continuation?

- Are bulleted &/or numbered lists OK? i.e. number scheme, indentation,
restart for new lists, copy/paste items between lists.

- If there is a toolbar or additions to the menu, do all the buttons work as
intended? Similarly for keyboard shortcuts.

- What happens if you click a button when the cursor is in a part of the
document not relevant to it? (e.g. clicking a "Reformat table" button when
the cursor is not in a table.)

You can probably think of some more.
