It's neither right nor wrong to do either, rather part of the terms of
whatever deal caused Company X to be providing manuals to Company Y's

* Company X may *want* its brand on Y's manual
* Company X may *not* want to be associated with Y in that way
* Company X may be indifferent
* Company Y may *want* X's brand on the manual, perhaps to burnish
Y's image
* Company Y may *not* want to share the spotlight
* Company Y may be indifferent

There's tangible consideration here (meaning something valuable is
changing hands), so it's a point of negotiation. Whatever the parties
agree to is what's "right".
