More On Points in Time

An interesting reasoning behind the redundancy of "a point in time":

Don't know if that is true or not, but it gives the phrase some scientific 
validity.

A "time point" as defined for music:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-point

And from http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/point we can learn that point can 
mean a moment, place, or mark. Which is what leads to the explanation of 
why I found the "A point is not a unit of measure in time" observation so 
grating in the first place. The point may mot be a unit of measure, but it 
DOES indicate where the measurement should be taken. So, a point in time 
is as acceptable in reference to time as cutting at a point is in 
carpentry. It's just the points are measured differently. One in seconds 
the other in fractions of an inch or meter.
