Geoff made some great points about the use of humor. He missed one essential point, the article was about making reading "fun", not necessarily the humor side of fun, but fun in the sense of doing something enjoyable--like doing a sport you like. What things can we do to make our projects fun for the audience? Another operative word might be "interesting". Attention grabbing graphics, bits of trivia and pull quotes, among other things, can draw people into a document. Of course, when appropriate, humor is good too.
