A network planning document is a graphic representation of the dependencies among and between component tasks. It is conceptually similar to a critical path diagram. Microsoft Project software is a tool commonly used to create network planning documents. However, these diagrams are very much garbage-in-garbage-out. You can put a lot of work into generating a really impressive wall chart that nonetheless contains no useful information. So the first job is to understand the product development process; break it down into phases, steps, and tasks; and get realistic estimates from the people involved of the amount of effort required to complete each task. Then it is a relatively straightforward matter to generate the diagram.
