Subject: follow the following

Hi,

I'm writing a user manual at the moment and wonder whether there's a
better way of saying:

To perform the desired action follow the following steps:

It just seems very clumsy. Our style is a bit formal, so saying 'do the
following' or something like that would not be correct. I'm leaning
towards 'perform the steps provided below:' but that seems a but
cumbersome. Any ideas?

Esthee
