It depends. In many cases, you do not require familiarity with ISO standards
at all.

The ISO standards you are most likely to need to know about are the ISO 9000
series, dealing with quality management systems. If you are writing
documentation for your company's quality management system, then it helps to
have some understanding of the overall purpose of the documentation you are
writing.
