We tried Studio and had a lot of trouble with hang-ups/crashes during rendering. Were you able to overcome that? To be fair, some compression settings and formats performed better than others. It took us a very long time to come up with a combination that was fairly reliable yet offered a file size where we could put several 7 - 8 minute videos onto a CD that didn't take hours and hours to render.

I use Pinnacle Studio DV
(http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Home/). It's powerful enough
for me to use on a professional level and yet easy enough for my wife to
use when creating personal videos of the grandchildren, vacations, etc.
The newer versions will output to virtually anything except Quicktime.
It's also relatively inexpensive.
