Check out www.epicurious.com or www.cookinglight.com. The recipes at
these sites are all written by professional food writers, and they don't
use numbered steps; instead, they use short paragraphs (not one long
paragraph, as someone said earlier). And I don't find them difficult to
use at all, even when they are very complex (and some of them are much
more complex than server procedures!).

Now that I think of it, I don't think that many of my recipe books do
use numbered steps, but I've never really noticed that before.
