In all my years of technical writing, I have never written a single
Help file. Not one. Now I am tasked with creating a Help system for an
application. I find myself treading water with cement shoes. I
purchased MadCap on the recommendation of a friend, and while the
software is all well and good, I'm still not exactly sure where to
begin.

So, does anyone know of a good source for Help help? I'm looking for
basic tips and suggestions, a book, an online tutorial, a way to
convince my boss that playing solitaire really is helping me complete
my assignments...

Or, at the very least, a nice hammer and chisel so that I can break
these cement shoes off my feet.

Dave

p.s. We have some old help files that we may want to convert into the
new system. I believe they were created in Micosoft 4 Help (I think).
To be honest, no one really knows or cares. They are something like 5
years and 3 versions old and the creator has long gone on to other
pastures, green or otherwise. I'm in favor of junking everything and
starting from scratch. Any suggestions there would also be greatly
appreciated.
