A question for the lawyers. :p

You'll certainly be named in the lawsuit. Then, the nasty process of
attributing blame and proportioning responsibility would determine how
much each party is liable for.

Were you responsible for verifying the equipment? Or, were those making
the changes required to inform you or the OEM? Did the documentation warn
of the consequences of modifying the equipment?

The final answer would be dependant on a host of considerations and
finally on how the judge/jury was feeling.
